In Memory of Vicki Lynn Hegg

My dear sister, Vicki, passed away on Thursday, August 19th, (just over one month after the death of our mother on July 16th.)  She died unexpectedly of complications from a previous surgery. She was surrounded by much love from family and friends in her final hours; she was not alone.

Vicki was an amazingly talented woman.  She made the most beautiful stained glass creations - lamps, mirrors, door sidelights, window decor and more.  She custom designed quilts that are treasured by her loved ones. Vicki was never without a book and she usually had a jigsaw puzzle in progress on her kitchen table.

There will be a CELEBRATION OF VICKI'S LIFE on SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 5TH AT 1:00 PM at the Hegg Family Farm in rural Glenwood.  (This is about a 2 1/2 hour drive from the Cities - see directions on this site.)

The Celebration will be a reflection of everything Vicki loved.  She loved all living creatures; every stray animal that crossed her path found a place in her home and in her heart. Vicki also loved cowboy boots and jeans, simple pleasures, the 70's, boxed wine, good books, family heirlooms, playing cards and performing random acts of kindness.

Vicki was a long time Board Member of the Pope County Humane Society.  She was the Executive Director of HRA of Glenwood, MN.  Vicki put her heart and soul in the well-being of the residents of Glenhaven Manor.  Vicki is also a past member of the Gilchrist Town Council.

Vicki will be remembered and loved forever by her daughter, Jody Gray, son-in-law David Mykkeltvedt, precious grandchildren, Anna, Aaron and Anders; brothers Bob (Jacki), Barry (Linnae); sisters Voni (Thom) Gardner, VeNita (Paul) Schnebele; dear neices and nephews, Mike Hegg, Melissa Entzion, Jason Mackner, Briana Riley, Lindsey Marcum, Lauren Hegg and Eric Hegg.  She will be missed by 7 great-nieces and nephews and countless friends.  She also leaves behind her 4 legged friends, dog, Lexie and cat Bubbalooie.

Instead of flowers, please consider making a donation to Vicki's favorite cause, the Pope County Humane Society, 17584 195th Ave., Glenwood, MN  56334.  All are encouraged to follow Vicki's example and perform a Random Act of Kindness every day.

  1. Tonight, I lit a candle for my dear friend, Vicki. The lumination symbolizes the beautiful spirit that she possessed, never to be extinguished from my memory.

    The following passage is from the novel, The Art of Racing in the Rain, written by a dog/philosopher whose life experience leads him to believe that relationships between souls never end.

    "She died that night. Her last breath took her soul, I saw it in my dream. I saw her soul leave her body as she exhaled, and then she had no more needs, no more reason; she was released from her body, and being released, she continued her journey elsewhere, high in the firmament where soul material gathers and plays out all the dreams and joys of which we temporal beings can barely conceive, all the things that are beyond our comprehension, but even so, are not beyond our attainment if we choose to attain them, and believe that we truly can."

    My prayers and deepest sympathy to her daughter, her grandchildren, her siblings and to all of her loving family.

  2. My cousin, Vicki will be missed by all. Vicki was a very important part of my life growing up, especially my teenage years. Vicki did not just give gifts she gave thoughtful presents that had a lasting memory. I will always remember the summer she gave me a white pair of jean shorts with about seven shirts to go with them. She knew that I really needed the clothes. I wore those clothes every summer for years.
    I will always treasure the photo album and stained glass treasures that Vicki created for me for my confirmation. In loving memory, Rhonda

  3. I am still in shock over the passing of Vicki. We haven't been in touch in a very long time but did run into each other at Fong's some time back. She looked great. I met her daughter and Anders at that short chance meeting.
    I just wanted to extend my deepest sympathy to all of her extended family, friends and critters. I know she will be missed but her spirit will live on in all of our hearts.

  4. When tomorrow starts without me
    And I'm not there to see;
    If the sun should rise and find your eyes
    All filled with tears for me.
    I wish so much you wouldn't cry
    The way you did today;
    While thinking of the many things
    We didn't get to say.
    So when tomorrow starts without me,
    Don't think we're far apart
    For every time you think of me,
    I'm right here in your heart.
